Mazel Tov Herb

An old friend, Herb Goldsmith, agreed to attend Sunday Worship service with me at First Baptist Church after reading about my trip.
However, that was not his first reaction to my pending journey. Herb being 80 and a seasoned gentlemen first ask me, ".. What are you nuts!? !
Do you realize the stress and problems you are going to have?
What about money? You are on SSI. This thing will cost you a fortune. I strongly advise you to re-think this whole trip."
I had to remind herb I was going with only a back pack and my laptop; no hotels or fancy resorts. This is not a vacation!

Later that afternoon Herb invited me for dinner and his miracle "Jewish Chicken Soup". Suddenly, after the service and luncheon, his whole demeanor had changed, he became very encouraging and supportive of my trip. He heaped praises on FBC , and the warmth and kind reception from every person he had met. He asked why I had not dragged him there sooner? He told me,.." I really liked the Service.
"It was like a show," he said with a wonderful glow on his face.
"We call it a 'Praise', Herb." I said,
"It is our way of saying how thankful we are for all God has given us, so we sing and praise Him."

Herb was most impressed with Pastor Larry's message, and told me, " I have been to other christian churches and even a Catholic church, and they never, never, ever mention Jews.
All I could say was , " Well, Herb, I have it on the best authority that Jesus was a Jew, and a Rabbi at that."
Herb replied, "You know I think you're right!"

Herb went on, "I had a Baptist Church across the street from me on the other side of the state. I was never invited there. They were what we called 'Holy Rollers' " He continued, "... and you are sure these guys are Baptists?"
"Well, it says First Baptist Church-Fort Lauderdale on the door." I replied.

After two bowls of delicious Chicken Soup I left Herb with a new Bible compliments of Pastor Brian, and reminded Herb of the reading assignment challenge from Pastor Terry. Start the Book of John, and read Rom 10:9. Herb asked if he could go again next Sunday.
I said, " I think you have a good idea there, Herb."
The rest is out of my hands until I return in October.
